Global warming and global marketing

A new report by UK economist Sir Nicholas Stern, informs us that to battle global warming will cost $9 trillion. There is no way around it. We are talking about major amounts cash. I mean, if you had that kind of money, you could probably populate a nearby planet and start all over polluting that one instead. I’m sure there are politicians already lobbying for that idea. Mars has never looked so attractive.

But let’s put this figure into perspective. $9 trillion is roughly what is spent a year worldwide on advertising. Doesn’t that make you think? If we could for a second stop wasting money to tell everyone about the ever amazing advancement in toothpaste technology and other related items and spend it to deal with global warming we’d be slightly better off wouldn’t you think?

This is frowned on by the marketing industry of course. The impacts would be devastating; the loss of jobs and so on. But I think the main worry is really that people will realize that we didn’t need so much marketing in the first place. Perhaps we could populate Mars with all those out of job marketing people?
